eRomania
Gateway (eRG) is a not-for-profit organization promoting
and supporting knowledge-based development in Romania. Established in November
2001, the association is an open partnership between the public
sector (represented by the Romanian Government as a founding member,
the business community and civil society organizations.
The mission of eRG is to create an
institutional framework to facilitate interaction, communication and knowledge exchange for individuals,
governments, businesses and civil society at large.
To this purpose, eRG acts as
a facilitator, promoting and implementing e-development initiatives
and providing a co-operation platform for stakeholders from various
fields interested in interacting and sharing information, resources,
knowledge, and expertise.
Development activities are defined as projects, programs or activities
concerned with economic and social development aimed at reducing
poverty in developing countries.
In our understanding, e-development
represents the innovative and effective use of the Internet and
other Information and Communication Technologies in various sectors
to reduce poverty and promote sustainable development.
There are numerous e-development
related initiatives (e-government, e-learning, e-procurement, e-commerce,
etc.) that are using the advanced technologies in order to improve
the living and working conditions of all the citizens.
E-development means easier and faster access to information, entrepreneurial
opportunities to participate in new growth markets, lower costs
in public services delivery, enhanced communication abilities, changes
to the ways products and services are produced and delivered with
productivity gains, etc.
